What happened to the old climbing structure, swings and

monkey bars at the Rec Area?

The Timbers Climber was built by the residents of the Timbers in 1982. The wood used to build the structure was rated for 20 years. Thirty years later (2012), six of the eight support uprights were rotted at the base of the structure, and one of the crossbeams of the swing was rotted through. Bob Ellsworth who designed and help build the structure, inspected and condemned the structure as a safety hazard this October.

The structure was taken down immediately, without a formal vote from the community as an emergency measure, before it collapsed and seriously injured a child.  (see slideshow photos below)

Many thanks to Bob Ellsworth, Jesse Pollock, Sarah Volker's father, Mike (who was visiting) and Hank Sengelaub who spend the weekend this past November dismantling and disposing of the old climber.

And many thanks to the dads that originally built the structure in 1982. Many of the neighborhood kids have fond memories of swinging and having acorn battles on its ramparts.
